~ Herd Dam Selection~
We select our Brood Doe stock based on the following simple rules:
-
The doe must exhibit superior maternal instincts. If you don't have a doe with excellent mothering capabilities...that fancy, high priced buck with "big name" genetics, is not going to have enough progeny available to offset his cost. Bottle babies are cute & I love them..............but they are not cost effective!
-
Brood does must produce offspring that post good weight gains. Our does are expected to produce heavy muscling in their progeny that brings top prices at livestock auctions or commands respect in the show ring.
-
Does @ Losch's Riverview Farm are expected to perform. They must be able to regain their body weight lost during lactation on the lush pastures that grace our land. Our Brood does are not on heavy grain supplementation.
-
Conformation is important. We strive to meet or exceed the Boer Goat breed standards upon which the ABGA, USBGA & IBGA have been based.
-
Parasite resilience must be evident. High parasite resistance is a premium quality that we are heavily culling to attain.
Photos shown on our website are candid shots of the "workin girls" that make our Boer Goat operation a success. I will post additional info as time allows. We have approximately 65 Boer/Boer Cross Brood Does, so it may take some time to get all the does listed for viewing.
Note: ALL Registered goats on our farm are through the ABGA. We can furnish paperwork for registration of goats through our membership with the USBGA & IBGA @ customers request.

~Losch's R.V.F. Arielle~
Registered 75% Traditional Boer Doe
Click for Pedigree
Arielle is from my favorite brood doe, “Tenacious”, who has the strong South African genetics of Dixon Boer Goats in VA. Her Sire carries the desirable genetics of Pipeline & Downen.......which account for the thick muscling she puts into her offspring's butt. Arielle is an excellent mother who produces Traditional colored offspring. Her kids are always favorites for those seeking 4H show wethers. Note: this photo is outdated. Arielle matured into a large framed, solid, square built Brood Doe. Photo will be updated in the Spring of 2010, when the girls are turn onto pasture!

~Losch's R.V.F. Katrina~

Full South African (100%) Traditional Boer Doe
Katrina has strong Traditional genetics that trace back to Kaptein *ENNOBLED*. Her PCI Codi breeding shines through in her kids...... a favorite of customers looking for top quality breeding stock. I bred her to DA, to keep the Full South African genetics flowing. Her January 2010 buck kid is already reserved as a future herd sire! Her doe kid will be retained as a future brood doe here on our farm.

~Peach Valley Miss Millie~
Registered 50% Solid White Boer/Savanna Cross Doe
I purchased Miss Millie from Carol Kloiber @ a Keystone Goat Producers Sale in 2006. Miss Millie is 50% Savanna. She has been an excellent producer.........carrying, kidding & raising all her offspring without problems. Miss Millie produces meaty, hardy kids & is an easy keeper herself! Her FEMACHA scores, as well as her offspring, indicate parasite resistance. I plan to send her loud red and white paint buckling (sired by DA) to the MD Pasture based test. We participate in their test program each year. The parasite data they compile on the animals tested is invaluable!

Miss Millie's buck kid sired by Double Action in January 2010.

~Tenacious of The Willows (aka Tenacious)~
Registered 50% Boer Doe.......Heavy Bred in This Photo with Triplets!
Click for Pedigree
Tenacious is my absolute favorite Doe. When I was looking for a 100% Boer Doe, Tenacious found me. She was so rough looking & small for her age, that Alice Hanselman lowered her price when I came to pick her up! Poor Tenacious was abandoned by her mom & survived by sneaking milk from any doe that would stand for a minute or so.............hence her name..........."Tenacious". Tenacious is an excellent mom. She frequently raises triplets & has raised quads........all with no assistance! Her kids grow quickly & are always favorites for 4H project animals. She is 7 years old & still productive.
